Bears quarterback Kyle Orton could be out a
month with a high right ankle sprain, a source
told the Tribune. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday. He suffered the injury at the end of the first half of Sunday's 27-23 win over the Detroit Lions.
When it comes to the Bears, it’s fair
to say that with each new season I am
exceedingly optimistic. You say the glass is half-empty? I don’t just say it’s half-full. I say look at those droplets all around the sides–those have to count for something too, right? But even your ever-hopeful Zoner had to laugh when I read what Rex Grossman had to say about the Bears offense.

Kyle Orton has been named the starter for
the Chicago Bears next week against the Vikings. So
start growing your neckbeards and bust out the Jack Daniel's.
Orton's consistency through seven games has provided enough
evidence for the organization to play the hunch that
he's that guy. That franchise quarterback, if you will. If you agree with that premise, then you see why the Bears must make restructuring Orton's contract a top priority.

There was no coin flip this time, and
offensive coordinator Ron Turner's suggestion that Kyle Orton and

What is there to say. Hey, at least
we were leading at halftime right? At least for
those twenty or so minutes between halfs, I contemplated the Bears being the most unlikely of playoff contenders. I tried to figure out just how many teams would have to lose and who would have to beat…wait…
Former Bear, Tank Johnson, was tossing the ball
recently with several other DLs at Dallas' training camp.
They were chatting and joking and Johnson's voice boomed loudly. When the topic suddenly turned to Johnson's old teammate, Rex Grossman, Tank was even less shy.

Hey guess what Bears fans? You know how
your team decided to bring back a quarterback who's
virtually worthless last week? Well, the did it again tonight! That's right, not only is the Sex Cannon going to be back in the Windy City next year, so will ...
He’ll be behind a bum line, with a
mish-mash group of receivers, a rookie running back and
no one that defensive coordinators fear–not even Hester. But so many years ago, I broke into a steady, loud clap when the Bears selected him from Purdue. That year he had 31 TDs against just 5 picks and he seemed super-cool in the pocket. He deserves his chance.

The Bears' quarterback escaped Chicago, escaped the heckling
of talk radio, escaped the criticism he so often
heard from so many quarters. But if you think his three-week getaway to Tampa in July was all about rest and relaxation, you might not understand how serious Grossman has approached this competition with Kyle Orton.
I’m not saying Lovie Smith should be fired.
But as fans we wonder about things like if
a different coach would have won those games. Maybe it’s better put like this: do you think Smith and staff have done more to win close games or lose them?
Anyone who still cheers for Bears victories for
the rest of the 2007 season is dumb. The
best thing the Bears can do for the rest of the year is lose and lose miserably. The greatest Kyle Orton contribution would be to throw pick after pick after pick and fumble the ball at least four times a game. If the Bears go 5-11, I’ll consider this year a success.
