Two elderly women have been given what is described as a sentence of one year of "re-education through labor" after they applied for permits to stage protests at the Olympic Games. ... so we're clear on what happened: the Chinese government demolished their homes, and they never even protested.  They only tried to get permission to do so.  And they got a year of re-education through labor. I think that's good.  Elderly people need activities.  Plus I hear that labor is one of the best ways to learn new things.  Like at Fort Leavenworth, the easiest way to learn how to break rocks is to spend all day breaking rocks.
