WNBA goes WWE
Published 29 days ago by TheHotRead at SmackCaster SmackBlog
The WNBA doesn’t garner much attention. But this will certainly be featured everywhere. The Detroit Shock and Los Angeles Sparks saw spars fly at the end of their game on Tuesday night. Shock assistant coach Rick Mahorn, who was involved in the Pistons-Pacers brawl on Nov. 19, 2004, as a Detroit broadcaster trying to break up the fight, appeared to shove Lisa Leslie to the floor at one point, according to the AP story. ...
Fight night.

Take the W out, and Tuesday night's brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills could have turned into a referendum on everything wrong with pro basketball. After all, a coach shoved a star player. That player's teammate then punched the coach. Meanwhile, a star on the other team got injured and was carried off in a wheelchair. The fight itself was partly instigated by the biggest young star in the game. And all of it took place on national television. Think of it this way: what would the reaction have been if, during a Heat/Cavaliers game, LeBron James started a fight with another ...
DON'T MESS WITH THE BAD BOYS; GIRLS
Published 29 days ago by World of Isaac (noreply@blogger.com) at The World of Isaac
It was like ol times back at the Palace as a Detroit franchise brawled with another team. And it even involved original Bad Boys Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn. But this time it was the Detroit Shock, not the Detroit Pistons who were throwing the haymakers. And apparently, Detroit Assistant Coach Rick Mahorn forgot he was a coach because he involved himself in the altercation and even tossed Lisa Leslie to the ground. The absolute funniest part of the whole fight was the cheap shot Mahorn received in the back ...
David Stern REALLY Has Image Problems Now: Brawl Breaks Out Between the Sparks and Shock
Published 29 days ago by SportsHubLA at SportsHubLA
Generally speaking, the WNBA makes front page news for only one rea– actually, the WNBA generally doesn’t make front page news, no matter what the story. That’s assuming, of course, said story isn’t about the sort of massive, bench clearing brawl centering around LA’s star rookie Candace Parker and involving players and coaches from both teams that took place Tuesday night in Detroit between the Sparks and Shock. Los Angeles won the game, 84-81, not that anyone will remember. Not after the Malice in the Palace, II. Nobody should be surprised that women were throwing punches- ...
Detroit Shock-Los Angeles Sparks WNBA Fight
Published 29 days ago by HG at YOU BEEN BLINDED
... The Los Angeles Sparks and Detroit Shock exchanged shoves in what is being dubbed “The First Brawl in WNBA History”. Cheryl Ford of the Detroit Shock and Candace Parker of the Sparks started the bad blood and with four seconds remaining in the game Plenette Pierson picked up where her teammate left off with Parker. When the dust settled three players were ejected, Rick Mahorn was ejected for shoving Lisa Leslie, and Cheryl Ford injured her knee trying to break up the skirmish. I’ll give the ladies an A for effort, but ...
Rick Mahorn Fights Chicks

... . But wait, there’s more. Rick Mahorn got involved. He pushed Lisa Leslie so hard, she fell to the ground. Then he put his hands on an assistant coach before getting whacked in the back by DeLisha Milton-Jones. The BS was flying after the game. Here’s Mahorn’s weak-ass excuse: ...
Of Garbo, promotions and a wild night at the Palace

... of quotes floating around yesterday about him signing with Carlos Delfino’s new Khimki team in Russia but people I talked to in Toronto last night say it’s not quite a done deal.
Could very well happen but Garbo’s got a soft spot for Malaga of the Spanish league and they’re still in the running.

I have no idea what it is, but Detroit’s like Brawl Central when it comes to basketball.
Check out the WNBA scuffle last night. And here’s the story about it.

Businessman that he is, what if he could walk away with a clean $250M for five years or something? It’d be tempting, yes? It’d make him more global, yes? One could assume ESPN/ABC would make a deal to show his games, yes?
Just something to think aboot. (MARK THIS POST, PLEASE. ONE DAY, WE WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW WE WERE RIGHT FIRST.)
Something else to think aboot - there was a brawl in the WNBA last night.
How weird is that? Who could possibly care aboot winning ...

... not thinking "but the Bucs'll pay soooo much!" Poor Brian Urlacher...56 mil just wasn't enough (plus the Vitamin Water!) So apparently The Sport News released an online sports "newspaper." Am I the only who's thinking "what the shit? This has existed for years". And besides, just because others aren't in "newspaper" form doesn't mean they're not the same...its just pointless and kind of a waste of time (on both the editors and readers). Chicks Fighting! (Caution: not that cool) And thanks to Deadspin...Cool!
Why exactly are we treating the WNBA brawl like a bad thing?

What is it about The Palace at Auburn Hills and basketbrawls that happen to be broadcast [image] on ESPN? Is there hidden language in the TV contracts? Something in the Motown water? Too much adrenaline pumping music from native son Kid Rock on the radio? In any event, while Tuesday night’s brouhaha between members of the Los Angeles Sparks and Detroit Shock pales (thankfully) next to ...

... Hear it and know it: This team has character issues. Oh, not Detroit Shock character issues. (an aside: I saw that live today by accident. I turned to what I believed to be a rerun of the college basketball skills competition, getting the last minute of a WNBA game, and then, as I was turning the channel, seeing a full-fledged girl vs. girl Amazon Melee break out in which Bill Laimbeer was prominently involved, Rick Mahorn was full-on clubbed by a point guard, and Cheryl Ford sprained her ankle holding back her own teammate. This was like reaching down for a time, finding it was ...
