Melky optioned; Sexson released

I’m not at the Stadium today. But word from the Bronx is that Melky Cabrera has been optioned down to Triple-A Scranton and Richie Sexson was released. OF Brett Gardner and INF Cody Ransom will be added to the roster. The Melky move is about a month too late, but at least they made it. Maybe it’ll be a wake-up call for both he and Robinson Cano. According to Peter Abraham, it appears the Yankees have optioned Melky Cabrera to Scranton, and have let Sexson go. In a corresponding move the Yankees are bringing up Brett Gardner and infielder Cody Ransom. Sexson for Ransom I can understand. Sexson was a first baseman who had lost his pop, and we could stand to gain a real utility infielder due to the lapse known as Wilson Betemit. Now Melky for Gardner I'm not so sure about. Don't get me wrong, Melky was awful, and he needed to get sent down to the minors no question. But does someone in the Yankee upper management really ...

Word on the street is that Melky has been sent to Scranton, and Richie Sexson has been released. Gardner has replaced Melky on the roster and bats 8th tonight, and Cody Ransom has been called up to replace Sexson. I think this is referred to as addition by subtraction. Gardner is fun to watch when he gets on base every other game, and at least Giambi can now play against lefties I would hope. http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/08/15/melky-optioned-sexson-released/
