Published 29 days ago by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
... Baseball Prospectus' Will Carroll checks in with a slew of rumors.
Carroll believes Orioles relievers Jamie Walker and Chad Bradford would clear waivers. Bradford isn't striking anyone out, but he does have a 2.45 ERA by virtue of good control and tons of grounders. He has a reasonable $3.5MM commitment for '09.
Casey Blake suitors: Mets, Rays, and Twins.
Carroll wonders if the Rangers could send an outfielder to Atlanta for closer Mike Gonzalez. MLB.com's ...
Marlins pursuing Brian Fuentes?

... as the Blue Jays' Gregg Zaun or Reds' Paul Bako, sources say.
The Marlins, who are far more focused on acquiring bullpen help than adding a veteran catcher, are expressing interest in all of the top available relievers, according to major-league sources.
If Treanor can return to the team anytime soon, I agree the Marlins needing a catcher isn't paramount.
Rosenthal isn't the only one reporting this: Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus is saying it also.

Rumors Afoot: Could we Get Andruw Jones Back?
Published 29 days ago by gondeee at Talking Chop: Front Page Posts
Here are some rumors being reported by Will Carroll at Baseball Prospectus that involve the Braves:
The Rangers were clear winners at last year’s deadline, already seeing a payoff from last year’s deals. They might try again, making smaller deals focused on 2009. They might again have a match with the Braves, dealing one of their extra OF bats — Frank Catalanotto, Marlon Byrd, or even Milton Bradley — for Mike Gonzalez. There hasn’t been much interest in Hank Blalock, but he’s another name that could ...

... be activated after spending the minumum amount of days on the DL. The only Rays reliever with options is J.P. Howell and he isn’t getting sent down. The Rays would either have to put another pitcher on the DL like, Al Reyes, or designate someone for assignment, unless something happens before then.

Morning Update: Deadline Looming For Blake Deal

... be starting to fire up the trade discussions and two deals already got done yesterday. The Indians are of course a prime team to trade some people. The most valuable being Casey Blake. But, for whatever reason, all quiet on that front. I'm going to be really upset with Shapiro if he doesn't move him before the deadline. Here is what has come through the pipeline on Blake. Jon Heyman says both New York teams are interested in Blake. Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus has the Mets as well, but also adds in the Twins ...
Trade rumor roundup
Published 29 days ago by noreply@blogger.com (Kujo) at Rockin' the Red
... injured starters forced the Cardinals to sign Kyle Lohse, perhaps the best signing in all of baseball. The Cardinals acted fast then, which leads me to believe they're not sitting on their hands this time around. No one's calling for a drastic, thoughtless move to be made here, but I am anxious to upgrade the two biggest need areas we have - the bullpen and the middle infield. The Cardinals are still looking at Damaso Marte of the Pirates, according to Will Carroll. Pitchers Hit Eighth left this idea in the comments under ...
MLB Trade Rumors: The Nats Asked For What From the Red Sox?
Published 29 days ago by faketeams at FakeTeams: Front Page Posts
... Dodgers scout was also at the game Tuesday.
Ken Rosenthal at FOXSports.com:
The Cardinals, whose bullpen has become almost a nightly issue, had two scouts in Baltimore on Tuesday night, presumably to watch Orioles closer George Sherrill. The Orioles want either a shortstop or outfielder for Sherrill, but the Cardinals don't have a shortstop who is close to the majors, and they're not going to trade Colby Rasmus for a reliever

... One name that is getting a lot of press in regards to the Rays is Casey Blake, the Indians third baseman...If he comes to the Rays, they will almost certainly convert Blake to the outfield. He was the Indians right fielder in '05 and '06 and played 7 games there last season. Blake is hitting .288/.365/.488 for the Indians and will be a free agent at the end of the year. His best season came in 2004 when he hit .271-28-88. [Baseball Prospectus] ...
