Assuming Selanne will return for a 16th season, the Ducks can’t construct his contract until they free up salary cap space, presumably by shedding defenseman Mathieu Schneider and his $5.5 million contract.
But suitors for Schneider hinge on what teams are left out of the race to sign Sundin.
That is, assuming Sundin decides to play this season.

... The OC Register Ducks blog had an interesting bit of logic, saying the Ducks ability to unload defenseman Mathieu Schneider depends on where Mats Sundin goes. In other words, if a team grabs Sundin, they probably don't have the cap space for Schneider. But if I'm not mistaken, Schneider and Sundin play different positions.
