I don't really think this is a bad move for the Sixers. Ratliff has always been a team player and not a malcontent. A good veteran backup for Dalembert as long as he can stay healthy which is a big IF. But, the team needed a little more experience with all the youth they have surrounding them and their frontline is pretty formidable if Dalembert ever decides to fulfill his potential.

Ratliff lands in Philly...
Published 8/19/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (SJ) at The Rip City Project
The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that the Sixers and Theo Ratliff have agreed to a 1-year deal. Let the thievery continue. In 13 years, Ratliff has never played a full 82 games. He's had a nice pattern of arriving at a team, blocking shots out of the whazoo, getting a contract, getting "hurt" and then exiting stage left. Recently, he was "hurt" in Boston. Got traded to Minnesota, saw a chance to play, busted his tail, got praise, got "hurt" and then ended up in Detroit. Blazer fans should remember him as the "Rattler". I remember those 30+ games with ...

... take the abuse of an 82-game season? Smith logged just short of 15-minutes per night last year. Is a 35-year old Ratliff capable of putting in that kind of work? Granted the Sixers will have a host of frontcourt help this season, headlined by that Elton Brand guy, but they still needed to replace Smith. Now, with Sam Dalembert , Ratliff, Brand, Rick Ross, er, I mean Reggie Evans , and Marreese Speights , Philly could have one of the deepest front lines in the League. Source: Philly.com

The Rattler!

... This time, it's being reported that Ratliff will sign a 1-year deal with the Sixers for the veteran's minimum, $1.4M. I love the move, basically because I see Ratliff as more than just a warm body. He's a shot-blocking machine who can give the Sixers valuable minutes of defensive intensity at the 5 spot when Dalembert needs a breather. ...
