DON'T MESS WITH THE BAD BOYS; GIRLS
Published 29 days ago by World of Isaac (noreply@blogger.com) at The World of Isaac
It was like ol times back at the Palace as a Detroit franchise brawled with another team. And it even involved original Bad Boys Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn. But this time it was the Detroit Shock, not the Detroit Pistons who were throwing the haymakers. And apparently, Detroit Assistant Coach Rick Mahorn forgot he was a coach because he involved himself in the altercation and even tossed Lisa Leslie to the ground. The absolute funniest part of the whole fight was the cheap shot Mahorn received in the back aftwards from a Sparks player. It was biggest pansy punch I've seen since ...

Remember in the 1989 version of Batman, when the Joker says, "This town needs an enema?" On Tuesday night the WNBA got its enema, because for the first time in league history, something interesting has happened. L.A. Sparks rookie Candace Parker -- considered to by many to be the only reason you should watch women's basketball -- showed how she earned that title by getting into a fight with Plenette Pierson of the Detroit Shock near the end of Tuesday night's game at the Palace of Auburn Hills. As befitting of a fight at the Palace, it soon turned into an all-out melee, with um, ladies throwing punches and shoving each other. (I can't wait to hear ...

Look at them, all trying to be like men and shit! Bless! Giggidy. Also, because it's not worthy of its own blog post, here is a picture, via whomever, of Baron Davis and Steve Nash on a tandem bicycle, wearing clothing best described as "totally gay". No, I don't know why either. ICouldTakeStephenJacksonInAFight.com: just one of many NBA blogs to pad out its content with links to videos and pictures because it saves my spindly old woman's fingers from having to do any actual creative work.
WNBA Fight Between Detroit Shock And Los Angeles Sparks
Published 29 days ago at FanIQ Blog
So first we kicked off the week with Danica Patrick and Milka Duno with their semi cat fight, if you even want to call it that, and now the WNBA has one upped them big time. Naturally, the fight occurred in Detroit (what is it about that place?) between the Detroit Shock and the Los Angeles Sparks.
While this first video is kind of hard to tell what exactly happened, you do get to see Rick Mahorn get hit in the back by a flying haymaker after he throws Lisa Leslie down.
As you will see in the video below, Candace Parker starts it off with a forearm take down of Plenette Pierson, ...

Out of Bounds Rick Mahorn: Will the Fight Between Candace Parker and Plenette Pierson Change the Scope of the WNBA?
Published 29 days ago by AXG at The Starting Five
A change is gonna come, but don’t compare this to the Detroit/Indiana “brawl”. If you do, that’s irresponsible. This is the WNBA not the NBA
As I write this in my best attempt to stay clear of being judge and jury, a fight occurred during a basketball game in a familiar venue. If the Palace at Auburn Hills rings a bell, then you must understand that there has been one too many fights in this Detroit suburb.
The Los Angeles Sparks overcame a bench clearing brawl (5 seconds remaining in the game), and 4 ejections (Candace Parker, DeLisha Milton-Jones, Pienette Pierson, and ...

Basketball fans have been joking for years about how David Stern always finds new ways to shove the WNBA down our throats. Whether it was by attaching them to NBA teams, stuffing them into All-Star Weekend or subtle advertisements during games. It's always there. Who knew the WNBA would have it's own version of the 'Malice at the Palace' (Ok...so it was nowhere near that but on the WNBA scale of fights this was at least a 9. Mainly because there haven't been that many. Now...if this had happened tonight we'd have a huge deal. On the catfight scale....about a 4. You could see better on Flavor of Love...or Rock of Love....or any ...
Of Garbo, promotions and a wild night at the Palace

Not sure how this is going to work out this week, was sort of a weird feeling around the golfing course trying to write without 19,000 fans screaming their lungs out, music being played during the competition and, of course, there are no Chickens in golf.
Odd sport, that.
But I digress, as I do.
On to the hoops

Yes, we know by reading a snippet in our paper this morning that Jose went for 18 points and Spain beat Argentina by two yesterday in some pre-Olympic friendly (as they call it in my other sport, football).
Well, looking further into the boxscore, I notice that Garbo played 14 minutes or so, made a ...

The Opening Pitch: Well, that's ONE way for the WNBA to hit the radar with fans who otherwise wouldn't care about the league.
Brawl.
*A nationally televised brawl.
*At the Palace, of all places.
*Involving new WNBA poster player, Candace Parker.
*And its old poster player, Lisa Leslie.
*And a coach (Rick Mahorn) shoving a player.
And, of course, there's full-blown, widespread video of it.
It instantly becomes the defining moment ...

Marcus Williams to Golden State? ESPN's Marc Stein is on vacation, but he's a gamer, and checked in to say that this move, by all indications, likely shifts Golden State's attentions away from the offer sheet they were flirting with extending to Philadelphia 76ers free agent Louis Williams. The Warriors decided getting this Williams via trade was a lot less risky than signing Philly's Williams to an offer sheet and potentially coming away with nothing if the Sixers match it as you'd expect. A sportswriter vs. the department of homeland security. Update to yesterday's post about that Nike campaign that some see as ...
Video: Los Angeles-Detroit WNBA Fight

Who says that things can’t get a little tense in the WNBA? On Tuesday night, players from the Los Angeles Sparks and Detroit Shock were involved in what’s believed to be the biggest skirmish in the league’s history — and unsurprisingly, it occurred at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Check it out:
Well, this is certainly an interesting way to bring some attention to the league — but any publicity is good publicity, right? In this case, I think the skirmish actually helps the WNBA; the league has been fighting perceptions that, although it provides a level of fundamentally-sound play that the ...
The WNBA: It's Fight-tastic!

One of the best things Title IX has done for athletics is now women athletes can be just as stupid, immature, and boorish as their male counterparts! Except of course that this fight doesn't spill into the stands and cause a riot, if only because the stands are empty enough that the hundreds of fans in attendance could easily just walk away from the fighting players. Alternately, they could take a page from Rick Mahorn's book and just toss gangly women around like James Brown at a coke party.
Just consider that only a few years ago, this very same venue, The Palace at Auburn Hills, was the host ...

Congrats to Nancy Lieberman for having the ability and gumption to leave the broadcast booth and make her return to the WNBA’s Detroit Shock. Apparently deciding the team needed a bit more maturity in the wake of this week’s episode of Foxy Boxing with the Los Angeles Sparks, Coach Bill Laimbeer signed the AARP-member to a seven day contract.
Maybe coach needs to clean his face-shield, but how can this move help anybody? How can this be anything other than a complete lose-lose situation? If she fails, it’s a) sad and b) makes the team that signed her look absolutely ridiculous.

Let me just start by saying WNBA fights are really funny. That isn't even an opinion, its a straight up fact. What's funnier than a WNBA fight? Rick Mahorn involved in a WNBA fight. Its like a dream come true. Not only do you have a bunch of odd looking tall women scrapping, but now we have one of the known tough guys of the NBA thrown in the mix. Fantastic. The best part is all the women crying afterwards. Check out the video below.

I watched this game, and let me just say - awesome. A good, close game, capped off by a bench-clearing brawl and multiple ejections? Does it get better than that?
